This is a poem I wrote on the evening of September 11th 2001.
What kind of seed could grow in such darkness?
Nourished with fury, watered with hate,
I thought living things needed sunlight to grow,
I was wrong.
This evil was lurking somewhere,
It might have been closer than I thought.
I didn’t know any of the people who suffered,
But I saw their frantic waving,
Watched them jump,
Heard their screams inside my head.
Sad beyond sorror, terror beyond belief.
I had meant to write so much more
As words and thoughts came tumbling
Like broken glass and shattered masonry,
Taking my breath away.
The dust, the smoke, the tears
Fall on us all.

Much better than Simon Armatige’s “poem” and he got his in the Times!
Heartfelt , Tylluan !
I continue to hope that only good will come from this.

A very fitting poem …. thank you for sharing it
Well put.
Some of my Dad’s cousins were in the Towers on that day, and a colleagues step daughter. I didn’t know them at all, but I am sad for those in my family who did and for the thousands others who did not deserve to die that day and for those who grieve for them and for those who lost loved ones in the retribution and violence that followed.
The worrying thing is how many more seeds of evil have sprouted? What is causing them to sprout and how can we stop them germinating? How can we end the pain and the bloodshed?
Hugs.

A wonderful poem for a terrible time, sad all round for everyone, it stands as a symbol for all innocents who die needlessly all over the world.
Wonderful poem. I’ve been watching some of the footage from that day. It was all so surreal then. Its so very sad.
